Always Giving a Damn
The Gathering Place Gets the Most Votes
The most recent meeting for the St. John’s chapter of 100 Men Who Give a Damn took place at Always In Vogue on Water Street on January 27th. A big thank you to JAC and S.R Stack & Company for providing refreshments!
A New Year To Give a Damn
The meeting last night was the first of 2016 and it was great to see members again and to catch up! As much as 100 Men is about helping local charities, another great aspect is its ability to bring people together and create new relationships. We look forward to seeing even more men come out to our next meeting. Congrats to Matt Craig, the winner of the door prize consisting of two tickets to the NSO Suncor Big Band Show, provided by Power Boland Chartered Professional Accountants.
To open the meeting, we heard from Jason Fleming of the Boys and Girls Club to learn about how our donation of $12,800 helped their organization. In total, in a very short time, we have raised an incredible $109,350!
We next heard from the three nominated charities: School Lunch Association, The Gathering Place, and the Learning Disability of Association of NL. Each gave their pitch and after hearing about all the good that these organizations are doing in the community, a tough vote was to be made. The Gathering Place received the most votes and was awarded the donation. They are a service centre committed to building community, promoting equality and providing nourishment. It exists to meet the needs of people whom society has failed.
Be sure to stay tuned for details about our next meeting and the announcement of the next 3 nominated charities.
